I found out about this story last week and wanted to blog about it. Frank Neuhauser was born in 1913 and won the Bee back in 1925. He was awarded three prizes for winning: $500 in gold, a new bicycle and the opportunity to meet with President Calvin Coolidge at the White House. He could very well have been one of the few people left in America who actually met with Coolidge. Years later, he joined the Navy and served in the U.S. during World War II. Given his history, he was sought after for documentaries and in Spelling Bees where people would take photographs with him and request his autograph.
I personally think that his passing should have received more publicity.
