1775: Two Crisis Works Burnt At The Royal Exchange Gate

Filmed last night ...

It is March 07, 2025.  The Revolutionary War Semiquincentennial continues.  On this day, 250 years ago, works by Paine and Becket were publicly burnt.  The Gentlemen's Magazine For March, 1775 has all of the details.  The British monarchy was obviously very alarmed at these writings reaching the public.  War would commence a mere six weeks later.

1775: American Flaxseed And The Pending Annihilation Of The Linen Industry

It is March 07, 2025.  The American Revolution Semiquincentennial continues.  The topic of discussion for this video: flaxseed.  Flaxseed is necessary for omega 3, dietary fiber, protein and the manufacture of linen.  In the days preceding the Revolutionary War, the subject of flax-seed was of great concern.   Industry was affected by the pending conflict.  I hold in my hands a publication, The Gentlemen's Magazine For March, 1775.  This particular issue was released to the public in early April 1775.  This week, 250 years ago, on March 03, 1775, a petition was presented.

This video will discuss the matter:

1775: An Ancient Roman Coin Accumulation Was Discovered 250 Years, Or A Quarter Of A Millennium, Ago In Yorkshire

It is March 01, 2025.  This post may be of particular interest to coin collectors, numismatists and enthusiasts of Ancient Roman History.  On this day, 250 years ago, a quarter of a millennium ago, an accumulation of ancient Roman coins was discovered.  This publication, The Gentlemen's Magazine dated March 1775 and issued in early April 1775, provides the details.  Given the different periods included and the choice condition, could this have been compiled by a very early collector of coins?
